The Blade

The remarkable performance of this fan is achieved through the innovative, dynamically balanced single blade. Its organic form delivers excellent air flow at lower operating speeds than conventional fans. The low speed also allows the form of the blade to be appreciated even when the fan is in operation.

Features

Operated by remote control at three speeds (80, 120 and 160rpm) the Blade creates a comfortable, natural breeze. The low degree of turbulence created by the blade provides whisper quiet operation and the aerodynamic design and low operating speed make it very energy efficient. With its sculptured, ergonomic form, this fan will create a dramatic feature in any setting.

Designed and built to the highest standard and quick and easy to install, the Blade has a robust, corrosion-proof blade and high strength metal components with a sleek, durable finish. Every fan blade is balanced in the factory to ensure quite operation and long life. Packaging for this fan uses environmentally responsible, fully recyclable pulp paper inserts, in place of traditional poly foam.

Concept

The Blade was developed in Sydney, Australia in 2002 by industrial designers Danny Gasser and Michael Hort who were pursuing their passion for excellence in design and engineering by developing and manufacturing innovative contemporary products. In 1997 when they designed and built the first prototype of the Blade it was probably the only single bladed ceiling fan in the world. Their first prototype won an award in the Design Resource Awards International competition, and generated so much interest that they decided to develop it further.

Development

In 2001, they started developing the design for production. The original prototype blade was refined through a series of iterations, each one tested for air flow delivery using a hot wire anemometer. It took them over a year, but they finally achieved their aim of making a beautiful, quiet, efficient blade which matches the airflow of conventional fans, while operating at lower speeds. The final blade design was modelled using 3D CAD for manufacture, to ensure the highest quality product.

Gasser & Hort were determined to make this fan exceptional in every respect and a great deal of effort was put into the detail design to make it reliable, robust, and easy to install and use. Only the highest quality components and materials are used, and an excellent quality of finish has been achieved in the final product.
